Joe Hunter and Henry Sonnenberg formed Hunter Douglas Machinery Corp in 1946. By 1951 they had created the world's first metal venetian blind which was launched along with the Luxaflex® brand in the UK, the Netherlands and France.
Innovation has always been at the heart of Luxaflex®. Precision-engineered features such as a non-slip, crashproof cord-lock, and style details like patterned venetian designs quickly secured Luxaflex®'s reputation as a manufacturer of high quality, long-lasting and beautiful blinds.

A world first - Duette®, the original honeycomb blind - was designed to stop heat escaping through draughty windows. Duette® blinds reach the UK in 1985 just as sales in conservatories boomed.
Innovation in the styles stakes came in the form of Silhouette® blinds, a soft and elegant design that controlled light and privacy at bigger windows and doors.
PowerRise® was our first electric blind, operated by a remote for simple fingertip control and introduced in 1996.
SmartCord®and LiteRise® made manual operation of blinds almost effortless, and won the prestigious iF design award in 2014.
In 2016 we took our electric blinds to the next level with the launch of PowerView®, one of the first systems that could integrate with smart home devices for worldwide remote access.
